James Walker (below) is part of the janitorial and waste management staff at Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Europe Ltd.
His responsibilities include recycling waste and ensuring factory cleanliness and safety. He likes having the responsibility of ensuring waste is recycled correctly. Such waste can vary from cardboard to metal. One of the challenges his team faces is the weather, and his job sometimes requires him to work outside. “We can literally have four seasons in one day so we have to dress accordingly for the weather”, he says.
Today, he had fish and chips from the company's canteen for lunch. “There is a wide range of food available in our canteen to suit everyone. Curry, spaghetti bolognese, steak pie, which is a particular favourite of mine, along with vegetarian choices”, he says.
James normally eats in the canteen every day because the prices and quality are generally very good. There are other food outlets nearby but he prefers the convenience of the on-site canteen. “I never go anywhere else for lunch and never bring lunch from home”, he explains.
He usually sits together with fellow employees when he dines in the canteen. He talks about local news in general, but recently they frequently talk about how Brexit will affect them next year.
